Subjective positioning of recipients regarding media coverage of asylum policy

Despite the enormous increase in press reports on the "refugee issue" since August 2015, the topic of asylum policy has not been adequately communicated by the media. In addition, hardly anything is known about the manifold modes of reception and impact of the various, mostly vague forms of reporting. The aim of this article is to explore the subjective positions of recipients for media reporting on asylum policy. Using an online questionnaire for open text input, patterns and effects of varying reporting styles on "refugees and asylum policy in the media" are examined. The central result is that the relatively distanced visualisation of antagonisms in reporting increases the probability of recipients' reflective considerations about dissent in migration society conveyed by the media.
